Details have already emerged about what Samsung could have in mind for Q1 2014 when it comes to smartphones. Now comes word that it is also planning two high-end tablets sporting AMOLED displays. According to South Korean Web portal Naver, both an 8-inch and a 10-inch model are planned with at least one to possibly launch alongside the Galaxy S5 (in early 2014?). Little is known about either model at this point.
Production of the displays will reportedly begin in early 2014, another pointer to a launch in the early part of the year.
The two AMOLED tablets will likely be part of its higher-end Galaxy Tab lineup with the entry and mid-range models to continue to use LCD displays. The two sizes will allow Samsung to have models that can compete directly with Apple’s full-size iPad and iPad mini which use LCD panels but with Retina Display technology.
Samsung is also reportedly planning a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite (SM-T11) which could, at €100 (about CA$145), be its cheapest tablet yet. The name implies that it will be part of a new Samsung family of entry-level devices that will include smartphones such as the Galaxy Note 3 Lite and Galaxy Grand Lite as well as tablets.
Samsung could also complement its 2014 tablet lineup with the Galaxy Note 12.2 and a larger 13.3-inch model.
It would not be the first time that Samsung has put an AMOLED display in a tablet. It has already done so with the Galaxy Tab 7.7.
