Samsung may be working on a new high-end Android tablet with a display larger than 10.1 inches. According to an Indian shipment tracking database, the SM-P905 will come with a 12.2-inch display. The site shows several shipments going back to June 13th when the tablet was listed as being for R&D. The latest entries list it as a sample, suggesting that Samsung could be wrapping up design and getting production ready.
The existence of the SM-P905 is confirmed by the existence of an UAProf (User-Agent Profile) file on Samsung’s own website. Other variants, the SM-P900 and SM-P901 also appear to be in the works, likely with different connectivity options. As usual, the UAProf file reveals little although we get a bit more than usual this time around. It indicates that the device will come with an ARM-based processor, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, cellular connectivity, and a WQXGA (2560×1600) display (like the Google Nexus 10 that Samsung manufactures).
Rumours of a 12.2-inch Samsung tablet first emerged last month. If those rumours hold up, Samsung will use a IGZO (Indum-Gallium-Zinc-Oxide) display from Sharp for the upcoming tablet.
