Samsung Canada yesterday announced the opening of its first Canadian R&D Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia. It will focus on enterprise security solutions and provide technical support for the company’s B2B customers. While Samsung’s KNOX security platform is not specifically mentioned, it is likely to be among the products that the Canadian team will be working on.
“Our new Canadian Samsung R&D facility is creating jobs in British Columbia, a hub for technology innovation,” said HT Kim, President and CEO of Samsung Canada. “With a skilled Canadian talent base to draw from, the team will help Samsung continue to lead the industry – both at home and abroad – by driving product innovation.”
The facility already employs about 60 people including software engineers, designers and operations staff. It joins Samsung’s 33 other R&D centres located across the world, including the U.S. China, India, Japan and Israel.
Samsung spent US$10.8 billion on R&D in 2012.
