While rumours have suggested that Samsung has reduced manufacturing orders for its Galaxy S4 flagship smartphone as a result of slower than expected sales, it now appears that sales are brisk enough that it has now shipped over 20 million devices in two months (having gone on sale on April 26th). According to Korea’s Yonhap News, Samsung reached the milestone at the end of June.
Samsung reportedly set itself the target of selling 10 million Galaxy S4’s per month prior to the launch. If so, it appears to be meeting that target and future prospects look equally rosy. Market analysts suggest that the Korean manufacturer could sell as many as 80 million units this year.
In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S III took 100 days to reach the same milestone. This means that the Galaxy S4 is selling 1.7 times faster than its predecessor!
Samsung has already sold 500,000 Galaxy S4’s in Korea alone. It remains to be seen how the recently announced Galaxy S4 LTE-A variant could boost sales there (and other markets where it launches later).
For its part, Samsung has yet to confirm the report. Should it be legitimate, we can expect an official announcement very soon.
