When Samsung launched the original Galaxy Note phablet, it was not clear that there would be demand for what many viewed as an oversized smartphone. Since then, Samsung has gone on to sell over 38 million Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note II devices and effectively launched the phablet market. Last week, Samsung unveiled the latest iteration of its flagship phablet, the Galaxy Note 3, and it has high aspirations for it.
Speaking to the press in Germany, JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics, said that the company expected the latest model to outsell its predecessors. “Over 10 million Galaxy Note 3 will be sold,” he predicted. No time frame is provided by ETNews for the goal but higher sales will be required to meet its own expectation of outselling the previous models. It could well be that Shin expects to hit the 10 million mark by the end of the year on its way to even higher sales in 2014.
The Galaxy Note II took two months to hit the 5 million sale milestone. Anticipation for the Galaxy Note 3 has been high and it could well eclipse that milestone by the end of the year.
Samsung also expects the Galaxy Gear smartwatch to sell well despite its high price. For every 10 Galaxy Note 3 phablets sold, Samsung has set the goal of selling two or three Galaxy Gear watches. Shin also explained that the price was appropriate as “It provides a lot of functions.”
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear will launch in Canada on October 3rd.
