Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) sales expected to be “small”

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014)

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear got most of the limelight at this week’s Samsung Unpacked event but the South Korean manufacturer also unveiled the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) tablet. The latter is an update to the original tablet of the same name, upgrading hardware specifications such as the processor to either a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 or octa-core Samsung Exynos processor (depending on connectivity options) and the RAM to 3GB, adding support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch and offering new and updated apps such as Action Memo, Scrapbook, Screen Write and S Finder. One reason the tablet got less attention is that Samsung expects sales to be “small.”

The usual Digitimes industry sources expect that sales will not be higher than 600,000 units a month. Samsung has been disappointed by sales of its other 10.1-inch tablets and does not expect this latest model to significantly outsell other models. Instead, the manufacturer released the tablet “to defend Samsung’s market share in that segment” as consumer demand continues to shift to smaller tablets.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) will launch globally, including Canada, starting in Q3, 2013. Markets could start to see it as early as September 25th.
