Rogers launches cellular Wireless Home Phone

Rogers Wireless Home PhoneRogers Wireless today announced of its new Wireless Home Phone solution. Unlike its VoIP-based landline phone service, this one uses the Rogers cellular network. Much like cell phones, the Wireless Home Phone device uses a SIM. It provides the ability to connect two phones, unlimited Canada-wide calling as well as enhanced Voice Mail and Call Display with other options available at additional cost.

“This new service demonstrates how we continue to leverage investments made in our national wireless network to deliver innovative services that provide value to Canadians,” said John Boynton, executive vice-president and chief marketing officer, Rogers Communications. “Our growing wireless base is always looking for what’s next in mobile technology, and now customers outside of our home phone territory will be the first to access an affordable, wireless home phone service.”

Getting the Wireless Home Phone is straightforward. Plugged into any outlet, it works wherever there is Rogers cellular coverage. Customers simply take their existing cord or cordless home phones, plug them into the device and away they go.

The Wireless Home Phone device costs CA$29.99 (a one-time purchase). Service is currently being offered at the introductory pricing of CA$9.99 per month for new and existing Rogers wireless customers or CA$24.99 per month for non-Rogers wireless customers. There is one catch though: It is only available where Rogers does not offer its standard landline services.

The service is also available for Rogers business customers.

Customers simply need to purchase the Wireless Home Phone device, which is an electrically powered adapter with an active SIM card, plug an existing cordless or corded phone into that device and begin making calls over the Rogers wireless network. The service is a flexible solution for customers, allowing them to keep their current phone number and effortlessly move the service to any residence or office where the national Rogers wireless network is available.

Rogers Wireless Home Phone is available with no-term commitment, starting at the introductory price of $9.99 per month for Rogers wireless consumer and wireless small business customers, and $24.99 per month for non-Rogers wireless customers. The service includes unlimited Canada-wide calling, voicemail, and caller ID. Customers can also subscribe to additional value-added services including call waiting, conference calling, call forwarding, and international long distance packages.
