Research In Motion will unveil its first two BlackBerry devices. One will be an all-touch model and the second will sport a physical QWERTY keyboard. But this is only the beginning. In an interview with FierceWireless, CMO Frank Boulben confirmed that RIM is planning to launch additional devices to cover a range of markets and price points. “We intend over time as we transition the portfolio to have a full range of devices,” he explained. In 2013, RIM is looking to launch at least six devices (confirming earlier rumours). None of these devices will be carrier exclusives.
No details were given about the additional devices coming later in the year. Could we see the rumoured M-Series keyboard sliders among them?
Over 150 carriers are currently testing BlackBerry 10 devices. “They very much believe that we can be the third platform,” Boulben said. In Canada, Bell, Rogers, TELUS and Virgin Mobile have all announced plans to carry new BlackBerry 10 devices.
Recognizing the importance of a vibrant ecosystem, BlackBerry 10 will launch with some 70,000 applications available from the first day. 90 percent of the top 600 apps in major markets will be available.
The launch will also mark the start of a new global marketing campaign that will include TV ads that will show focus on BlackBerry 10’s gestural interface and features such as BlackBerry Flow, BlackBerry Peek, and BlackBerry Hub.
