Qualcomm Toq smartwatch goes on sale December 2

Qualcomm Toq smartwatch

First expected in October, the Qualcomm Toq smartwatch is finally about to hit the street. We received an email today to let us know that it will go on sale for US$349.99 directly from the Qualcomm website on December 2.

Get the smartwatch that is clearly visible even in direct sunlight and delivers alerts, messages and updates from your Android smartphone to your wrist.

First unveiled in September, the Qualcomm Toq comes with a low-power always-on Mirasol display that much like e-ink displays, should remain readable in direct sunlight. It is powered by a 200MHz Cortex M3 processor and its own proprietary operating system. Battery life is expected to be measured in a number of days.

Designed to be a companion accessory, it pairs to Android smartphones using Bluetooth to deliver various notifications and offer remote control functionality such as music playback and basic call management. A companion Android app is also expected in the Google Play store.

Qualcomm has described the Toq as a limited edition device and only plans on selling “tens of thousands.” It hopes that it will spur other manufacturers to develop their own devices, hopefully using Qualcomm components.

Let us know below if you plan on buying the Qualcomm Toq.
