As expected, yesterday’s teaser for a new Sony Xperia smartphone will definitely not be the last. Sony Mobile today released a second teaser ahead of its September 4th event, this time promising that it’s “About to make a splash…”
The image effectively confirms what earlier rumours had suggested: That the Sony Honami will be waterproof like other Xperia devices such as the Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra. We can likely expect an IP57 (immersion up to 30 minutes in one meter of water) or IP58 (continuous immersion in more than 1 meter of water) rating.
The new image also suggests a rather thin device if that port at the top is indeed the 3.5 millimeter audio jack.

As for specifications, we expect the Sony Honami to come with a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, LTE connectivity, a 5-inch FHD (1080×1920) Triluminos display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage, a 20.7MP rear camera with a 1 2/3-inch Exmor RS sensor and Sony G-lens and a 3,000mAh battery. It should also be dustproof and waterproof like the Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra.
At latest word, the Sony Honami will launch as the Xperia Z1 rather than Xperia i1 as first thought.
All should be revealed at Sony’s September 4th IFA event.
