BlackBerry will finally open up BBM to other platforms by the end of the summer. Versions of BBM for both Android and iOS are expected later this summer. We now have a new screenshot of the Android app running on a Samsung Galaxy S III. It shows the login screen.
According to BGR‘s source, the application “isn’t bad” and is on track for its launch in the near future. Unfortunately, they were unable to provide additional images as these have “identifying marks” that would identify the source.
It’s likely that the image comes from someone participating in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. Selected members of this group are now receiving invitations to download a beta version of BBM for Android and iOS. This suggests that BlackBerry is gradually opening up testing ahead of the official launch.
While BlackBerry confirmed that BBM was coming to Android and iOS earlier this year, rumours of such a move go back as far as early 2011. Screenshots of an early version of the app even surfaced in 2012.
Are there still enough people around you using BBM that you will install it on your Android or iOS device? Let us know below.
