The price cut that Google announced for the Nexus 4 seems to have had the desired effect. Within a week of the move, the 8GB version of the Nexus 4, now selling for $199, has sold out. The 16GB version, now selling for $249, may not be far behind.
It should be noted that Google Play does leave the door open to further stock becoming available. The out of stock message reads: “We are out of inventory. Please check back soon,” suggesting more could be coming but this may be unlikely in light of new rumours again suggesting that Google is about to unveil a new Nexus smartphone.
According to Droid-Life sources, a new Nexus will launch in October, possibly on October 31st. Conflicting rumours suggest that either LG (with the LG G2 as the basis for it) or Motorola will manufacture it. Even the name is still not certain. Most rumours suggested that it would be known as the Nexus 5 but the recent launch of a new version of the Google Nexus 7 suggests that it could also launch as a new Nexus 4. For now, it appears that the new device is known internally as “Hammerhead.” There is also the possibility that Google could launch two Nexus smartphones.
Google Nexus 4 (2013) or Google Nexus 5? Which name would you go with? Or is two Nexus smartphones even better? Let us know below.
