No new BlackBerry 10 devices until March 2014

BlackBerry Z30

While there have been a number of new BlackBerry 10 device leaks recently, don’t expect to see any of these devices hit the street in the near future. BlackBerry today confirmed to Pocket-lint that it does not plan to launch any additional devices until its current fiscal year ends in March 2014.

As it revealed last week, BlackBerry will focus on prosumer and enterprise market segments with four devices. At the entry-level will be the BlackBerry Z10 and the BlackBerry Q5 while the just announced BlackBerry Z30 and BlackBerry Q10 will be aimed at the higher-end market.

BlackBerry had hoped to bring six devices to market in 2013. It’s clear now that the last two models have been cancelled although revised editions could still surface in 2014. It’s not clear whether these two were among the recently leaked devices. Among those were the BlackBerry Kopi, the BlackBerry Americano, and other devices with codenames such as Windermere, Tigris and Ontario.

If there is a silver lining in this news, it’s that BlackBerry is not quite ready to quit the hardware business just yet. Should its deal with Fairfax Financial go through in the coming weeks, we could also see further changes to its strategy in the near future.
