MTS yesterday continued the deployment of its LTE network by turning on its latest market, Portage la Prairie. MTS customers with an LTE-enabled device, such as the Samsung Galaxy S4, BlackBerry Q10 or Sony Xperia ZL will now benefit from “faster-than-ever wireless download and upload speeds.”
“MTS is committed to bringing today’s most advanced wireless technologies to more Manitobans in 2013,” said MTS President Kelvin Shepherd. “Portage la Prairie is the latest community to benefit from MTS’s 4G LTE Wireless Network – our fastest network yet.”
MTS is now halfway through its plans to bring LTE to six Manitoban communities this year. Earlier this year, Victoria Beach and Grand Beach were lit up. Selkirk, Steinbach and Ste. Anne are also scheduled to get LTE coverage this year.
MTS first launched LTE in 2012, starting with Winnipeg and Brandon.

Long Term Evolution (LTE) is recognized as the gold standard in wireless technologies and provides superior performance while surfing the Internet, downloading content, and streaming videos and music. MTS’s 4G LTE Wireless Network supports average user speeds that are up to ten times faster than MTS’s 4G HSPA+ Wireless Network. MTS customers can experience the full speed capabilities LTE offers on some of the latest LTE-enabled devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 ™, BlackBerry ® Q10, and Sony Xperia™ ZL.
MTS was the first to bring 4G LTE technology to Winnipeg and Brandon in 2012. MTS has since launched 4G LTE wireless services in Victoria Beach, Grand Beach and now Portage la Prairie, with plans to launch in Selkirk, Steinbach, and Ste. Anne later this year. Customers using LTE-enabled devices outside of MTS’s 4G LTE Wireless Network coverage area will transfer to MTS’s 4G HSPA+ Wireless Network, which covers 97 per cent of the Manitoba population.
