After a quiet first half of the year, Motorola came back to life this summer with a new trio of DROID smartphones for Verizon and the much
anticipated Moto X just days ago. It may not be done yet either. According to a new Google+ post from Android and Me’s Taylor Wimberly, the Google-owned company will release a Nexus smartphone in Q4. This device will not be based on the Moto X (although a Google Play Edition is in the works) but a new device entirely.
Unfortunately, no other details are provided at this point.
Most rumours, including some as recent as early July, to date have suggested that LG would produce the next Nexus device, possibly using the LG G2 as the basis for it much as it did with the Google Nexus 4 and the Optimus G. That now appears to be in question although there is no reason that Google could not offer two Nexus smartphones, one by LG and another by Motorola, next time around much as it already does with the Nexus 7 by ASUS and the Nexus 10 by Samsung on the tablet side.
Then again, there was a rumour also only weeks ago that Motorola was working on a cheaper smartphone based on the Nexus 4. Packing a quad-core processor, a display measuring at least 4.5-inch, 2GB of RAM and an 8MP camera capable of 1080p video, it will reportedly sell for less than €250 (about CA$340).
