We’ve known that Motorola was planning to offer Moto X wood backplates for as long as the Moto X has been around. While Motorola itself has been quiet, the usually reliable @evleaks has, as recently as last month, tweeted that they are on their way. He took to Twitter tonight to again say that they are “still coming.”

Another report had indicated that they would launch in time for the holiday shopping season. That particular window is quickly closing and it is increasingly unlikely that they will be available before Christmas. Motorola may have decided to launch them after the holidays in a bid to keep attention on the Moto X during CES and MWC announcement season.
When they do launch, there should be four different wood options available: Teak, Ebony, Rosewood and Bamboo. Each is expected to increase the cost of the Moto X by US$50. The latest image shows them bearing the Verizon branding, suggesting that at least one U.S. carrier will offer them as an option.
Are you still holding out for a wood backplate for your Moto X?
