It appears that we have come full circle when it comes to rumours of a metal-bodied Samsung Galaxy smartphone. Reports of a new Samsung line of high-end devices first surfaced back in September. The initial report suggested that Samsung would launch this line of premium smartphones and tablets to share the limelight with the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note devices. More recent rumours then suggested that these metal-bodied devices would instead be new variants of existing lines. South Korea’s ETNews now reports that the Samsung Galaxy F will launch either alongside the Galaxy S5 or soon after as a higher-end device, swinging the pendulum back into the favour of a completely new line of devices.
The Galaxy S5 is now expected to retain the line’s traditional plastic casings. It could also adopt the new faux-leather look introduced with the Galaxy Note 3. The Galaxy F will launch with a metal body and possibly other higher specifications.
The Samsung Galaxy F prototype was reportedly developed in Europe. Mass production will come from a Samsung plant in Vietnam. This lines up with reports back in August that indicated that Samsung was readying a production line at a Vietnamese factory.
The Samsung Galaxy F could launch as model SM-G900F in the March or April time frame. It could sport other high-end specifications such as a WQXGA (2560×1600) display and Samsung’s new true octa-core Exynos processor.
