It appears that LG is doubling down on the phablet market. Just days ago, rumours surfaced that it was working on a 6.4-inch phablet designed to take on the Sony Xperia Z Ultra and other larger phablets. Now comes word that it is readying the LG Vu III (or Optimus Vu III?) for launch about the same time that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 hits the street. This second tablet will be geared at the lower end of the phablet market with a large display and low price being key selling points.
According to South Korea’s ETNews, the LG Vu III will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, a 5.2-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio and LTE-Advanced cellular connectivity. It may also come with stylus support.
While the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 sports a larger display and additional features such as the S Pen and its range of pen-enabled apps, LG plans to offer its LG Vu III at a lower price. The report suggests that the it will sell for about ₩800,000 (about CA$760) whereas the Galaxy Note 3 will sell for about ₩1 million (about CA$950).
LG could announced the LG VU III by the end of the month. Specific market availability is not known yet.
