The mystery of the LG-V510 has been solved. The tablet is neither an LTE variant of the LG G Pad 8.3 or the oft-rumoured Google Nexus 8. But if there is any consolation to be had, it will be that the LG-V510 will not be far from a Nexus device. It turns out that the LG-V510 is a Google Play Edition of the LG G Pad 8.3. Should this turn out to be correct, LG will be able to brag about being the first to offer a Google Play Edition tablet.
How was the mystery solved? A Redditor found the open source files for the LG-V510 on LG’s website and downloaded them. Inside he found three files:
- LG-V510(G-Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition)_Android_KK_V510_10d.Android.tar.gz
- LG-V510(G-Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition)_Android_KK_V510_10d_Kernel.tar.gz
- V510_README.txt
As for the specifications, we already have seen most of them in previous leaks. Missing have been the processor and operating system and that has now been revealed by a GFXBench benchmark result. It should come as no surprise to find that the LG-V510 will be powered by a processor with cores that top out at 1.7GHz (likely to be the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 as on the original version) and Google Android 4.4.1.
At this point, it appears that all we need is a formal announcement from Google and LG telling us when and for how much the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition will be available. One thing is sure: Pricing will be on par with the normal version rather than being the wallet-friendlier prices we see with Nexus devices.
