Just over a week before Christmas, LG has unveiled a new addition to its smartphone portfolio. As we reported last week, the LG Gx is headed to South Korea and appears to be the successor to last year’s LG Optimus G Pro.
As expected, the LG Gx does not support LTE-A as initially reported but does support the 2600MHz LTE band and Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) . It also sports hardware navigation buttons rather than the capacitive ones that we are increasingly getting used to.
LG Gx specifications:
- Processor: Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600
- Operating system: Google Android Jelly Bean with LG Life overlay
- Cellular connectivity: LTE / HSPA / EV-DO / VoLTE (U +)
- Other connectivity: Bluetooth 4.0 +HS, NFC
- Display: 5.5-inch Full HD (1080×1920) IPS
- RAM: 2GB LPDDR2
- Internal storage: 32GB
- Rear-facing camera: 13MP AF
- Front-facing camera: 2.1MP
- Battery: Removeable 3,140mAh
- Dimensions: 150.6 × 76.1 × 9.2 millimeters
- Weight: 167 grams
- Colours: Black, White
While the specifications are very similar to those of its predecessor, LG has added a number of software features first seen on the LG G2. Among those are Knock On which lets you tap the screen twice to wake the phone up, a Guest Mode and the LG Smart Memo app. It also adds new features such as Smart Day that shows key information such as the weather on the lock screen and Media Time which gives you access to music and videos from your lockscreen when you plug in your headphones.
The LG Gx is available in South Korea on the LG U+ network. LG did not provide any details about availability in other markets.
