While there are days that feel like we cover nothing but Samsung, today is turning into an LG kind of day. We’ve seen pictures of a white LG-V510 tablet, a mysterious LG-D678 revealed by its UAProf file and now comes word that LG could be working on a smaller version of its LG G2 flagship smartphone.
The report by Greece’s Techblog suggests that the device which could launch as the LG G2 mini will sport a smaller 4.7-inch display. In comparison, the LG G2 comes with a 5.2-inch Full HD (1080×1920) display. While it’s not clear whether the G2 mini will come with a Full HD display or a lower HD (720×1280) one, most other specifications including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 and 2GB of RAM are expected to remain unchanged.
Should the rumour turn out to be accurate, LG would be following in the footsteps of other manufacturers that have recently taken flagship devices and shrunk them down to offer mini versions. Among such devices, we have seen the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, the HTC One mini and the Sony Xperia Z1 f in Japan. While most have featured downgraded specifications, Sony took a different route and offered nearly identical specifications but in a smaller package. It now appears that LG will follow that path as well.
LG could unveil the LG G2 mini as early as CES 2014.
