Following today’s report that LG could launch its first smartphone with a flexible display as the LG Z or GG Z1, CNET has now learned that the device could in fact launch under a different name. According to “a person familiar with the company’s launch plans,” the 6-inch device will likely launch as the LG G Flex.
Few details are given about the device but CNET has a sketch of what the device will look like. It shows a device with a noticeable curve.
The fact that the device would launch as a G device suggests that it would find its place near the top of LG’s device portfolio alongside the recently launched LG G2.
The report adds that LG will launch the LG G Flex in November, slightly later than our report earlier today suggested. LG is in a race with Samsung to unveil the first smartphone with a flexible display. Should its launch slip into November, Samsung could well beat it to the finish line as it could unveil its own device, possibly a limited edition variant of the Galaxy Note 3, as early as next week.
