LG G2 officially confirmed as LG Optimus G successor

LG G2 logoLG officially announced that the successor to its LG Optimus G smartphone will be the LG G2. The announcement confirms that LG has dropped the Optimus label as its flagship brand in favour of a new “G” premium brand. The company also promised that future smartphones in the series would also carry only the G name.

“Our vision is to make LG’s newest G devices synonymous with excellence, raising the bar even further for the ultimate in user experience,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The new G2 will build upon the excellent reputation established by previous G Series products.”

LG also announced that its premium 4:3 display smartphones will adopt the “Vu:” brand.

The LG G2 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. It is expected to come with Google Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean (or perhaps 4.3), a 5.5-inch FHD display, 2GB of RAM and a 13MP rear camera. It could also feature volume control buttons on the back rather than on the side.

LG is expected to officially unveil the G2 at an event in New York City on August 7th.

Furthermore, LG’s premium 4:3 display smartphones will be rebranded as simply “Vu:” going forward. All of LG’s smartphones feature next generation core technologies and familiar UX with each series highlighting a different facet of the company’s product expertise.
