In a couple of tweets, @evleaks may have shattered the hopes of many that the elusive Google Nexus 5 had finally been confirmed. Last week, the LG D820 cleared the FCC while the LG D821 got its Bluetooth certification. The closeness of the model numbers to the original LG G2 (LG D802 in international configuration) led many to believe that one or both of these were the Google Nexus 5. It should be pointed out that neither online certifications made mention of the Nexus 5 directly.
In his first tweet, @evleaks claims that the LG D820 is not the Nexus 5 but another LG G2 variant.
Sorry Nexus fans: LG D820 is just a CDMA G2 variant.

@evleaks has been notoriously accurate in the past but two things do not seem to mesh about the D820. According to the FCC documentation, it measures 131.9 by 68.2 millimeters with the thickness not being specified. This is noticeably shorter and thinner than the G2’s 138.5 by 70.9 millimeters. For good measure, the LG G2’s camera placement is different from that of the LG D820.
As for the LG D821, a list of specifications compares it to the LG G2. The only real difference there are the connectivity details and the a slight difference in thickness that could simply be attributable to the antennae.

Where does this leave us? According to @evleaks, neither device is the Google Nexus 5. But the difference in dimensions and camera placement between the LG D820 and LG G2 does leave us with a glimmer of hope that this smartphone is more than simply another variant.
The Google Nexus 5 continues to remain an elusive beast!
