If you’ve recently picked up a Google Nexus 5 (or upgraded your Nexus tablet), you may have discovered that the Kobo e-reading app crashes when you try to open a book. Browsing your library of downloads, accessing the Kobo store and checking your Reading Life stats all work but try to open a book and the dreaded app crash dialog box pops up.
I reached out to Kobo and their support team confirmed that the Kobo app is not optimized for Android 4.4 KitKat. An updated version of the app is in the works and is expected early next week.
Fortunately, I have not yet updated my Nexus 7 tablet…
Update(11/15/2013): That certainly was quick! Ahead of schedule, an updated version of the Kobo app is now available. Version 5.1 includes a fix for the bug “where books wouldn’t open on Android 4.4.”
