A number of rumours have already suggested that BlackBerry is working on a new entry-level series of BlackBerry 10 devices. Known as the C-Series or ‘Cafe’ series, codenames that have already surfaced include Americano, Cappuccino, Kopi and Latte.
Images of the Americano have already surfaced online and now, we have new images courtesy of the help file found in a leaked version of the upcoming BlackBerry 10.2.1 release. From the pictures here, we can expect the Americano to look much like the BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Z30 in terms of styling but slightly more rounded. It also appears to have ha removeable battery.
In fact, it appears to show two variants as there are two different locations where the SIM card can be inserted. In the image above, the SIM slot is near the bottom whereas in the image below it is close to the top.
The images shed no light on specifications but earlier rumours suggest entry-level ones including a 4.2-inch HD (720×1280) display and LTE connectivity.
BlackBerry had previously confirmed that will focus on a portfolio of four devices going forward. It will offer an all-touch and a QWERTY keyboard device at both the entry and high end points of the smartphone market. As for a time frame for the Americano and other new smartphones, BlackBerry previously said that it would not release new devices before the end of its current fiscal year in March 2014. With a new CEO in place now, those plans could change.
Images of a QWERTY keyboard model identified as the Kopi have also previously turned up.
