HTC Working on Windows Phone 8 Version of HTC One?

HTC One WP8 GDR3 variant concept

One of the current Android flagship smartphones may be crossing over to the Windows Phone side. According to Neowin, HTC is working on a new Windows Phone 8 smartphone that will look a lot like the HTC One. But it will not be an identical copy in all but operating system; instead, it will bear a number of changes and modifications.

According to the report’s source, the device will come with a display between 4 and 5-inches (the HTC One has a 4.7-inch display), a mostly metal body, an UltraPixel camera and Beats Audio. The device will reportedly be powered by Windows Phone 8 with the GDR3 update.

GDR stands for General Distribution Release. GDR1 is widely believed to have been the Portico update. GDR2, which has yet to launch, is expected to come with new devices including the rumoured HTC Tiara. GDR3 would then follow with support for 1080p displays and quad-core processors.

The report suggests that this new Windows Phone 8 GDR3 device will be out by the end of the year. Given that we have yet to see GDR2, either Microsoft has two Windows Phone 8 updates ready to follow in short succession or we may only see this device next year or with GDR2 onboard.

Any takers for a HTC One clone with Windows Phone 8 onboard? Let us know below.
