HTC made a big splash with its Windows Phone 8 lineup last fall. It is now set to follow these with what could be one of the first Windows Phone 8 GDR2 smartphones. According to the usually reliable @evleaks, GDR2 will be the first major update to Windows Phone 8 since its introduction last fall.
HTC’s entry is codenamed Tiara. According to its rumored specifications below, it looks to be a mid-tier device that will slot below the Windows Phone 8X:
- Processor: 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon
- Operating system: Microsoft Windows Phone 8 GDR2
- Display: 4.3-inch WVGA (800×480 / 217PPI) Super LCD2
- Memory: 1GB RAM
- Storage: 8GB onboard
- Rear-facing camera: 8MP
- Front-facing camera: 1.6MP
- Battery: 1,800mAh
The HTC Tiara could once again make use of brightly colored polycarbonate cases. HTC started this practice with the Windows Phone 8X and Windows Phone 8S last year.
HTC could launch the HTC Tiara as early as mid-May but there is no word yet on pricing and markets. It also remains to be seen if HTC’s Windows Phone 8 lineup refresh will consist of a single device (as it recently did with the HTC One) or more than one.
