Google today sent out press invitations for a “a night out with Google Play” on October 24. The event will kick off at 1900 EST and will take place in New York City. It promises music, movies, games and a special performance by Capital Cities but makes no mention of Android or Nexus devices. With the expected launch of the Google Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat just around the corner, it would be logical to assume that we finally have a date for the announcement. But that does not appear to be the case.
Both Geek.com and AndroidPolice report that sources have told them that the event will not feature any hardware. AndroidPolice adds that “there will be no news, Android or otherwise, at this event.” For its part, Geek.com adds that the event is “purely for educational purposes.”
If this is the case, we’re now left to wonder exactly what Google has in store for October 24’s event as well as when it plans to finally unveil the Google Nexus 5.
