The Android 4.4.1 update may have garnered all the attention over the past few days but it is already old news. Google today began rolling out another update. Android 4.4.2 KitKat is now hitting Nexus devices with reports coming in of updates on the Nexus 7 (2012) and the Nexus 5. It brings the build number up to KOT49H.
The Nexus 5 update description is no different than it was for the 4.4.1 update, suggesting that the two are not very different. The Nexus 7 update weighs in at 39.3MB and promises to improve “performance and stability” as well as and fix a number of bugs.
Details are slim on what is different between 4.4.1 and 4.4.2 but it’s that Google either introduced some new bugs with the former and quickly fixed them with the latter.
We’ll update this post as we get more information as to what 4.4.2 comes with and why it so quickly followed 4.4.1.
Drop us a note below if you’re seeing the update on your Nexus device.
Update: As expected, it appears that an issue was found in the 4.4.1 update and Google rushed 4.4.2 out after halting deployment of 4.4.1. OTA zip files are also now available directly from Google if you cannot wait for the OTA update and want to sideload the update yourself:
