Shortly after the Google Nexus 7 (2013) began to land in users’ hands, reports began to surface of touchscreen issues. The company has now begun to push out the first OTA update for its latest tablet with a fix for this particular issue. Confirmation came from Google’s Paul Wilson (his fifth post as paulw) over at the Google Product Forums:
“As a couple of you have mentioned, there’s a new system update that’s started rolling out for your Nexus 7s. This update does address the touchscreen issues discussed in this thread. If you’re one of the people experiencing touchscreen issues, please let us know how it’s going after you’ve received and installed the update.”
It remains to be seen if the update, bearing build number JSS15Q, will fix other issues including the GPS issues reported by other users and acknowledged by Google. We’ll update this post with a changelog once one is available.
In the meantime, keep in mind that Google staggers its update deployments so it may yet be a few days before you see the update on your new Nexus 7.
