Rumours on the Google Nexus 5 front have been quiet for a while but they are back today. Reaffirming earlier rumours, Korean news site Ruliweb reports that LG will once again be the manufacturer of choice with a device based on its upcoming G2 flagship.
First, a bit about the upcoming G2. The report lists fairly complete specifications:
- Processor: 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800
- Operating system: Google Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
- Cellular connectivity: LTE-A
- Display: 5.2-inch FHD (1080×1920) IPS
- RAM: 2GB (although 3GB is “under consideration”)
- Rear-facing camera: 13MP with OIS
- Battery: 2,700mAh
- Other: Dual speakers
The report adds that there will be no front or side physical buttons. Instead, we’ll see a rocker on the back above the camera – something that we’ve heard before.
The report also confirms that LG will unveil the G2 at its August 7th event. This is not a huge surprise given the hints LG has already provided. The G2 would then launch in Korea on August 20th with global availability to presumably follow afterwards.
So, what about that that Google Nexus 5? Ruliweb indicates that it will be heavily based on the G2 with one of the key differences being that it will come with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. The report adds that it will be announced on October 5th.
The rumour is certainly credible given that Google and LG used a very similar strategy last year with the LG Optimus G and Google Nexus 4.
