Google Nexus 10 (2013) press render leaked or fake?

Rumoured Google Nexus 10 (2013) press renderA press render of the alleged Google Nexus 10 (2013) tablet has now surfaced. The render reveals little but shows Android 4.4 KitKat’s new background and new transparent navigation and status bars which are part of the new Google Experience launcher.

Assuming for a moment that this image is legitimate, the new image does not shed any light on recent rumours that Google has opted to go with ASUS rather than Samsung for this year’s Nexus 10 model.

Rumours this summer pointed to specifications that include a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 10-inch display offering the same WQXGA (2560×1600) resolution as last year’s model and Android 4.3. That last will almost certainly become Android 4.4 KitKat by the time it launches though.

Should ASUS use the upcoming Transformer Pad Infinity TF701T as the basis for the new Nexus 10, we could see the Qualcomm processor make way for a NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage.

Before you get too excited, it does appear that the image is in fact fake. Nowhereelse.fr‘s Steve Hemmerstoffer suggests that it’s based on the Nexus 7 press render:

Fake Google Nexus 10 (2013) press render?

All in all, we have a lot of speculation with little factual information to go on. We’ll have to see what shakes out when Google finally unveils Android 4.4 KitKat along with the Nexus 5 and hopefully the Nexus 10 (2013).
