If you’re a football (better known as soccer in some parts of the world) fan, chances are that you’ve already booked off June 2014 to watch the World Cup set to take place in Brazil. The qualifiers are done and we know which 32 countries will be competing for the glory and the trophy. Ahead of next week’s World Cup draw, FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) has released Android and iOS apps to track progress of your favourite teams.
Creatively called FIFA, the app will let you track not only World Cup progress but also covers nearly 200 leagues across the world from the Bundesliga to the Barclays Premier League and MLS to La Liga. Billed as “the most comprehensive football app on the planet,” it will offer match schedules, results, news, rankings and more. Its “World Match Centre” will let users customize preferences to follow specific teams, leagues and countries. Also available are galleries from Getty Images and videos from the FIFA TV Studio and FIFA archives.
The FIFA app is still a bit rough around the edges. For example, Toronto FC is missing from the teams in the MLS (Then again, it could be that they need to do better in order to have FIFA follow their progress).
As for the 2014 World Cup, the app will livestream the December 6 draw that will set the groups for the upcoming tournament. It also offers an exclusive destination guide and team profiles.
The FIFA app is available as a free download for Android, iPhone and iPad.
