Evidence continues to mount that the upcoming HTC One max phablet will come with come with an older generation Qualcomm processor rather than a current one such as the Snapdragon 600 or 800. The latest to suggest that it will sport a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ 8064 is Digitimes and its usual (and not always reliable) “sources in the supply chain.”
There is some conflicting information as to what led to HTC’s decision. Some of its sources suggest that the Taiwanese manufacturer has been unable to secure an adequate supply of the very popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor as other manufacturers, including Sony Mobile, LG, ASUS and Xiaomi among others, have apparently snapped up most of the committed supply for their own devices. Other sources suggest that there is no such shortage and that HTC opted for the older processor for cost reasons.
HTC is expected to launch the HTC One Max phablet with a 5.9-inch display in the coming weeks.
