Samsung could unveil a smartwatch alongside its Galaxy Note III phablet at its September 4th IFA 2013 event. Patents and trademark applications have surfaced recently and UK’s Voucher Codes Pro asked their “patent and trademark insider” to come up with a concept of what the final product could look like.
The concept shows an Android-powered smartwatch with a curved (AMOLED?) display. It could also be available in a variety of colours or with removable straps to make it more customizable.
As with other smartwatches, such as the Sony SmartWatch 2, the Samsung smartwatch will likely connect to other devices, including your smartphone or tablet. It would likely allow you to manage calls, read incoming text or emails and include some fitness-related features.
Samsung is known to be working on flexible displays under the Youm brand name. It has faced a number of challenges in the manufacturing process and may have decided to launch smaller displays as it works through those difficulties. A smartwatch with a 1- to 2-inch display could well be the ideal first product to sport a flexible display.
Samsung was also recently spotted sending prototypes of its SM-V700 smartwatch to a test center.
