Sony Mobile unveiled both the Sony Xperia Z and the slightly smaller Sony Xperia ZL earlier this week at CES 2013. Sony confirmed that the ZL, which was intended only for select markets, would be coming to Canada. Asked about the Xperia Z, Sony could make no such commitment for the Xperia Z:
Great news and you're hearing it here first – The #XperiaZL will be coming to Canada. #SonyCES

Last night, Sharath Muddaiah, the Xperia Z’s Marketing Manager, gave Canadians eyeing the Xperia Z some good news. He confirmed came that both devices would in fact becoming to Canada during a Twitter chat:

Specific availability, carrier and pricing details have not been announced but we now know that Canadians will have a choice of two new Xperia devices in the near future.
Update (1/14/2013): After hearing conflicting stories about the Canadian Xperia Z availability, we reached out Sony Mobile Canada and received the following statement:
Everyone is really excited about the week we’ve had at CES. A global representative made an error regarding Canadian product availability. At this time we can confirm that Canadians will be receiving the Xperia ZL as previously announced, but we have nothing to announce about the Xperia Z availability in Canada at this time. We will share more news on future products as they are confirmed.
You may have to keep your fingers crossed a bit longer if you want to see the Xperia Z in Canada.
