BlackBerry announced a new device strategy back in September. Going forward it will offer a portfolio of four devices, two at the high-end and two at the low-end of the market, at any one time. Today, it offers the BlackBerry Z10 and the BlackBerry Q5 at the lower end while the BlackBerry Z30 and BlackBerry Q10 are aimed at the higher-end market. We’ve seen signs of the next lower end devices, the C-Series, in recent rumours and now details are emerging about the next generation of flagship smartphones. The next all-touch model will reportedly be known as the BlackBerry Z50 while the next QWERTY keyboard model will be the BlackBerry Q30.
The BlackBerry Q30 appears to be closer to a launch. Expected with BlackBerry 10.3, it appears slated for release in August 2014. There are no other details yet about it though.
As for the BlackBerry Z50, it is set to launch in late 2014. It will reportedly come with a 5.2-inch Full HD (1080×1920) display and a quad-core processor.
With a new CEO at the helm of BlackBerry, not only could BlackBerry’s device strategy change again but the roadmap and details for these rumoured devices could also change significantly. But for now, it appears that BlackBerry will remain a competitor in the smartphone arena.
