BlackBerry this week announced that it had begun to roll out another update to the BlackBerry 10 version 10.1 software. Still identified as BlackBerry 10.1 but described as a maintenance release, it comes with version numbers of 10.1.0.4181, 10.1.0.4537 or higher. The update promises “hundreds of new enhancements” including:
- BlackBerry Hub improvements including ability to quickly swipe between messages, ‘u’ hotkey on the Q10 to take you to the last unread message and additional email synchronization settings
- Improved search in BlackBerry World
- New wish list feature in BlackBerry World
- BlackBerry Balance now supported in BlackBerry Hub allowing users to separate work and personal accounts into different views
- Improvements to BlackBerry Remember
BlackBerry is already pushing out the 10.1 MR update in Canada, Europe and the Asia Pacific region. Latin America can expect the update in mid-August and the U.S. by the end of summer.
Note: Some users are reporting that BlackBerry 10.1 MR is wiping out some text messages and even the entire SMS history in somes cases. BlackBerry has confirmed that it is looking into this issue:
A small number of customers have reported an issue with their SMS message history after updating to BlackBerry 10.1 MR. We are currently investigating the issue.
Be sure to backup your data before doing the update.
