BBM for Android and iPhone downloaded 10 million times in first day

BlackBerry BBMMore good news for BlackBerry today following the launch of BBM for Android and iPhone yesterday. The company announced that BBM was downloaded over 10 million times by Android and iPhone users and declared it “one of the best single-day openings for a mobile app to date.” BBM also became the number one free app on the App Store in more than 75 countries including Canada and the U.S.

“This has been an incredible launch for BBM across Android and iPhone devices. The mobile messaging market is full of opportunity for BBM. BlackBerry also announced that it add BBM Voice and Video calling as well as BBM Channels to its new Android and iPhone apps “in the near future.”

At the time BlackBerry sent its press release, BBM had more than 60 million monthly active customers. It will be interesting to see how that number changes in upcoming weeks with its wider availability.
