It now appears that Apple’s next event will take place a little bit later than first expected. While early rumours suggested an October 15 date, AllThingsD now reports that the event will take place on October 22, the same day that Nokia will hold Nokia World 2013. On tap are two new iPad models but they will likely have to share some of the limelight with the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks.
As expected, Apple will unveil a fifth-generation iPad and second-generation iPad mini. The new iPad will keep its 9.7-inch display but will be both lighter and thinner. It will also come with Apple’s new 64-bit A7 processor and an improved camera. The new iPad mini will pack a 7.9-inch retina display and could also come with an Apple A7 processor. It remains to be seen if Apple’s new Touch ID fingerprint sensor will make it onto either new iPad.
The report made no mention of possible supply issues for the iPad mini. Earlier reports indicated that production of the Retina displays for the new iPad mini tablet had just started and that limited stock was expected for the launch.
Both new iPads could be available as early as November 1.
The location of the event remains unknown but AllThingsD expects that it will take place at Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.
