French website MacGeneration reports today that Apple will unveil its next generation iPads at a special event set for October 15th. Unlike Apple’s event last week which introduced the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, this one may focus on more than a single product category. Apple could also announce an Intel Haswell update to its Mac lineup and even the Apple TV could be in line for an update of its own. Apple is also planning to launch the next version of its Mac operating system, OS X 10.9 Mavericks, at the end of October and there could be an update about availability as well.
On the iPad front, Apple is expected to unveil a redesigned iPad 5 that should be both thinner and lighter. It is also expected to have thinner bezels, modified volume controls and speakers located at the bottom. A new iPad mini tablet with a Retina display could also be on tap. Don’t rule out an appearance by Apple’s new 64-bit Apple A7 SoC as well.
Having two major Apple event only a month apart is not unprecedented. The company did something similar last year when it unveiled the iPhone 5 and new iPods in September. A month later it introduced its first iPad mini alongside a new iPad and new Mac computers.
