The Angry Birds franchise rolls on. Literally today as Rovio announced the launch of Angry Birds Go! In this latest installment, the Angry Birds characters get behind the wheel of a downhill racing karts. In all, some 50 karts are available along with tracks ranging from canyons to speedways and stunt roads to air courses. But, as you probably expect, not all will be free.
Rovio bills the game as its “first major free-to-play Angry Birds title” but a wide range of in-app purchases complement the basic game. Rovio is also working with a number of “select partners” to offer “more fun and special content, such as free power-ups and exclusive karts.” Among these are State Farm, the Goldfish Brand and Target.
“Angry Birds Go! is our first major free-to-play Angry Birds game, and while we’re super excited to step into this new territory, we’re also staying true to our roots,” said Jami Laes, the Executive Vice President of Games at Rovio Entertainment. “As with every previous Angry Birds game, there’s lots of free content and we have great new updates already planned – including the eagerly awaited arrival of multiplayer. Our main goal is to provide an amazing experience with more than enough content to make sure everyone has a blast. We do offer some really awesome premium content for fans who want a bit more, but we’ve designed the game so that you don’t have to pay to have a great time.”
Angry Birds Go! is also compatible with Hasbro’s TELEPODS digital gaming platform. Players will be able to “teleport” their physical Angry Birds Go! karts into the digital game much as they were able to do with Angry Birds Star Wars II earlier this year.
Angry Birds Go! is available today for iOS devices, Android devices, Windows Phone 8 smartphones and Blackberry 10 devices.
