The new Moto G may have garnered most of the attention today at Motorola’s Sao Paulo event but there was good news for its Moto X sibling as well. Company CEO Dennis Woodside confirmed during the event that the Moto X will be updated to Android 4.4 “in a matter of weeks.” While we already knew that Motorola was working on the upgrade, we now have a time frame to work with as well.
You can catch the confirmation at about the 3:00 mark during the Moto G event which is now available online for replay:

The Moto G will also be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat. It will roll out by the end of January 2014 (29:17 mark in the video).
Motorola attributes its ability to deliver the upgrades soon after its announcement to its decision to keep a near-stock Android experience on both the Moto G and Moto X. That Google owns it and can work closely with them probably helped too.
The news follows the announcement just a couple of days ago that Moto Maker was now be available to all four major U.S. carriers.
No timelines were provided today for the other Motorola smartphones confirmed to be in line for Android 4.4 upgrades. These are the DROID Ultra, DROID Maxx and DROID Mini offered by Verizon.
