Orascom Telecom today announced its latest financial results. As in the past, they give us a glimpse into how WIND Mobile is faring in Canada. At the end of Orascom’s third quarter of 2011, the Canadian carrier had 358,000 subscribers. Now, a quarter later, WIND Mobile has increased its subscriber base to 403,000. This amounts to a 45,000 increase over the previous quarter and a 73% increase over its 2010 year-end numbers.
ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) remained consistent. Part of the explanation lies in WIND Mobile’s decision “not to follow unreasonably aggressive pricing waves adopted by low end market entrants proven to have no financial feasibility and in fact unsustainable in the mid-term for the high dormancy and churn rates coupled by significantly lower ARPU and negative lifetime value of such customers.”
Since the end of the year, WIND Mobile has added another 22,000 subscribers according to WIND Mobile CEO Tony Lacavera.
