Sony Canada today announced that the Sony Xperia S, the first device in its new Xperia NXT series, will be available in Canada starting on April 17th. A limited number will be available exclusively at Sony Stores across Canada.
“We are thrilled to offer Canadians the first Sony smartphone and the Sony Store is a natural retail partner for this premium device,” said Peter Farmer, VP Marketing, North America, Sony Mobile Communications. “Combining exceptional performance with elegant design and a myriad of entertainment possibilities, the Xperia S embodies the connected entertainment experience Sony Mobile represents.”
The Sony Xperia S will launch with Android 2.3 but will be upgraded to Android 4.0 in late Q2.
As rumours had suggested, the Sony Xperia S will be compatible with the Rogers wireless network. It is not clear whether it will be locked to Rogers though.
Sony has not announced pricing yet.
Update: Sony Canada has confirmed to Gadgetorama that the Sony Xperia S will start at CA$99.99 with a three-year Rogers contract.
