Sony Xperia S coming to Canada on April 17th (Updated)

Sony Xperia SSony Canada today announced that the Sony Xperia S, the first device in its new Xperia NXT series, will be available in Canada starting on April 17th. A limited number will be available exclusively at Sony Stores across Canada.

“We are thrilled to offer Canadians the first Sony smartphone and the Sony Store is a natural retail partner for this premium device,” said Peter Farmer, VP Marketing, North America, Sony Mobile Communications. “Combining exceptional performance with elegant design and a myriad of entertainment possibilities, the Xperia S embodies the connected entertainment experience Sony Mobile represents.”

The Sony Xperia S will launch with Android 2.3 but will be upgraded to Android 4.0 in late Q2.

As rumours had suggested, the Sony Xperia S will be compatible with the Rogers wireless network. It is not clear whether it will be locked to Rogers though.

Sony has not announced pricing yet.

Update: Sony Canada has confirmed to Gadgetorama that the Sony Xperia S will start at CA$99.99 with a three-year Rogers contract.
