Sony Mobile Communications today announced that the LTE-enabled Sony Xperia ion is coming to Canada later this summer. It will be available later this month through “various Canadian wireless carriers and authorized national retailers.”
“Designed to deliver a seamless experience across multiple screens, the Xperia ion is the gateway to connected entertainment experiences when and where you want it,” said Peter Farmer, VP Marketing for Sony Mobile Communications. “It is the ideal smartphone for entertainment enthusiasts looking to enjoy premium video, photography, music and gaming on their smartphone.”
Currently Sony’s flagship device, it comes with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 4.6-inch HD display, and a 12MP rear-facing camera. It will launch with Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread but will be upgradeable to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
Sony did not reveal what carrier(s) would carry the Sony Xperia ion. Given that this is Sony’s first LTE device, carriers which could offer it include Bell, Rogers, and TELUS. Pricing was not announced either.
Customers who buy the Sony Xperia ion and sign up with Box before December 31st 2012 will receive 50GB of file storage for free for life.
