Samsung reannounces Galaxy Note 10.1 with global availability this month

Samsung decided not to wait for press events later this month and today re-announced the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. First unveiled at MWC 2012, it has since undergone a few changes, including a much faster processor and more RAM. Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi plus 3G HSPA+ models will be the first to be available. They will be followed by an LTE version later this year.

“GALAXY Note 10.1 further demonstrates Samsung’s dedication to delivering products that offer a complete mobile experience for creating personalized and expressive content,” said JK Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. “History has shown that taking notes, capturing ideas immediately, and sketching to realize them is the most personal and natural way to be more productive and creative. The advanced technology and features included in GALAXY Note 10.1 give users the power to produce, create and customize communications.”

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 specifications confirmed so far:

  • Processor: 1.4GHz quad-core
  • Operating system: Android OS 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Samsung TouchWiz UX
  • Cellular connectivity: Optional HSPA+ or LTE
  • Other connectivity: Wi-Fi
  • Display: 10.1-inch WXGA (1280×800)
  • Input: Capacitive touchscreen and S Pen stylus
  • Memory: 2GB RAM
  • Rear-facing camera: 5MP
  • Front-facing camera: 1.9MP

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 will offer a feature called Multiscreen. It will allow users touse two different applications side-by-side simultaneously. For example, a user could have a web browser open on one side and a note-taking application on the other.

The Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi plus 3G HSPA+ models will launch globally this month. It will initially be available in Korea, Germany, the US and the UK. Other global markets will be added starting later this month. For its part, Samsung Canada confirmed it is coming here “in the coming months.” Pricing details were not revealed, possibly at that August 15th event.
