Samsung confirmed today to CNET UK that it will begin to upgrade its Galaxy S III flagship smartphone to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in October. Confirmation came during an event at which UK-based carrier Everything Everywhere (essentially the merged version of Orange and T-Mobile) announced that the 4G version of the Samsung Galaxy S III would be available with Jelly Bean pre-loaded when they launch it in the coming weeks.
A number of details remain to be cleared up though. No specific dates were provided and the “from October” statement suggests that it could take a while yet for every Samsung Galaxy S III user to see the update. It’s also likely that the update will first be provided to unlocked devices with locked versions to follow once carriers have completed their own testing.
More details will be “announced in due course.”
Samsung had promised that Android 4.1 upgrades would be coming to the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note 10.1 “very soon” back at IFA 2012.
