It was only in December that Samsung announced that it had shipped over 1 million Galaxy Note “phablets.” It has now confirmed to Forbes that shipments have now topped 2 million units. It also hopes to top shipments of 10 million Notes (it’s unclear if this is only the 5.3-inch model or the new Galaxy Note 10.1 as well) by the end of the year. The Samsung Galaxy Note is not the only phablet out there anymore. LG recently unveiled the LG Optimus VU which comes with a 5-inch display.
The term “phablet” has been coined to describe smartphones with oversized displays like the Galaxy Note’s own 5.3-inch screen. They target an audience looking to have the convenience of both smartphones and tablets in one device.
The Samsung Galaxy Note is available from Bell, Rogers and TELUS in Canada and AT&T in the U.S.
